In 2017, around 6,600 babies were live-born to teenage mothers—a rate of 9.2 live births per 1,000 females aged 15–19. Births to teenage mothers made up 2.2% of all live births. Births to teenage mothers decreased by more than 40% between 2006 and 2017 from 17.6 to 9.2 per 1,000 females aged 15–19.

Age-standardized prevalence of current tobacco use among persons aged 15 years and older

Tobacco smoking is one of the largest preventable causes of death and disease in Australia. In 2017-18, 13.8% of adults aged 18 years and over were daily smokers (2.6 million people), down from 14.5% in 2014-15. The decrease is a continuation of the trend over the past two decades, in 1995, 23.8% of adults were daily smokers. Additionally the proportion of adults who have never smoked is increasing over time, from 49.4% in 2007-08 to 52.6% in 2014-15 and 55.7% in 2017-18.

This dataset contains Australia’s total greenhouse gas emissions in Gg of CO2-equivalent between the years 1990 and 2016. The emissions are presented according to United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change accounting provisions. Also included are calculations of emissions per $ Rea; GDP (Chain Volume Measures) and per capita.

This dataset contains estimated Domestic Material Consumption (DMC) for Australia per US Dollar of GDP (on a constant year 2005 basis) generated, disaggregated by the four main material categories used in Economy Wide Material Flows Accounting i.e. biomass, fossil fuels metal ores, and non-metallic minerals. This indicator is often referred to in the literature as Material Intensity, and is the reciprocal of Material Productivity.

From 2009 to 2018, there were 251 women reported to have died during pregnancy or within 42 days of the end of pregnancy and a maternal mortality rate of 6.7 deaths per 100,000 women giving birth. Progress towards sustainable forest management - Above-ground biomass stock in forest

Above-ground biomass stock in forest (reported in Australia’s Country Report to the FRA 2015), and forest area (2010), reported as tonnes/hectares (source: National Inventory Report 2010). Updates to this indicator occur every 5 years. Note: The UN FAO Global Forest Resources Assessments (FRA) will be the ongoing mechanism by which SDG indicators 15.1.1 and 15.2.1 will be populated after the Voluntary National Review with statistical annex is submitted in 2018. ABARES prepares Australia’s Country Report to the five-yearly FRA, with the next FRA due for release in 2020. Australia’s Country Report is underpinned by data published in the five-yearly series Australia’s State of the Forests Reports published by ABARES and prepared in collaboration with state and territory governments.
